2018 Year End Wrap Up
It has been my honor to serve as your West Cobb Business Association President. 2018 has proven to be an amazing year of accomplishments. Now more than ever, it is a great time to be involved in WCBA. In 2018 membership grew by more than 100 percent and WCBA is nearly 300 members strong and thriving!
The mission of the West Cobb Business Association is to assist our members with building business relationships by providing a variety of networking, advertising, educational, leadership and community outreach opportunities. Over the past year WCBA has held more than 150 networking events and business opportunities and offered nearly 50 educational and continued learning events.
We have been blessed to have great partners who realize that we all share in the responsibility of creating economic success and quality of life within our West Cobb community. In 2018 we offered over 50 volunteer and community outreach events. Three premier community festivals were established to bring business and community together. Included in these events was the first annual West Cobb Community Fun Fest which brought over 2,000 attendees to the community event and business vendor fair. We also hosted the first annual Cool Cars and Cops festival and car show in October, held in conjunction with our community partner, the Cobb County Police Department. In April, five scholarships were awarded to Cobb County Area Five high school seniors overcoming adversity, including the first annual, Diane Vehar Scholarship named for an inspirational, long time WCBA member and past education chair. Mid-year WCBA hosted its first ever Candidate Forum to showcase political candidates running to represent you in various West Cobb elections.
Signature accomplishments included establishing the Barry E. Little Community Anchor Award, named for Major Barry Little, a 27 year veteran of the Cobb County Police Department and 2018 WCBA board member. The award will be presented annually to public servants going above and beyond the call of duty to support and strengthen the Cobb Community. In 2018 we experienced a record number of platinum and community partnerships, helping WCBA to give back an unprecedented amount of over $31,000 in charitable donations to support our West Cobb and surrounding communities, education and public safety.
I invite you to join us at Lost Mountain Baptist Church on Dallas Hwy in Powder Springs for our monthly Pre-lunch Power Hour and Expo at 11:00 and then stay for our luncheon program from 11:45 – 1:00 on the fourth Thursday of each month. WCBA also provides other added value opportunities such as our business after hours, weekly networking, educational workshops, member ribbon cuttings and much more.
Don’t forget to mark your calendars for our second annual Cobb Fun Fest coming again in May and our Fall Festival in October of 2019. For more information on all WCBA events please visit our event calendar.
For anyone looking to grow their business, get involved with the community and build lasting relationships I would encourage you to join us and welcome you as a member of our WCBA family.
I would like to wish the 2019 Board much success and again thank our members and partners for the support you have shown me. I wish you all prosperity, success and best wishes in the coming year and beyond.
